SLICK - Shooting Star Wolf
"Seen a shooting star tonight, & I thought of you." ~ Bob Dylan
SLICK. Education ambassador wolf with the Clem & Jethro Lecture Service 1977 to 1980. Wolf mystic. Witty wolf. Powerful, wildly good lookin' flowerchild wolf. Slick was born in the golden hils above San Francisco Bay on April 1st, 1977. His natural charisma drew him center stage at a tender age into the theater of environmental politics that flourished in that era. Slick, with his companion Joh Harris, led a grassroots wolf education program that made wolf, symbol of the eco movement.
From public ghetto schools to Washington DC's Sidwell Friends Quaker School (the Obama girls now attend it) where he took a National Geographic writer on a photo tour through classrooms, to the ivory halls of universities, the Smithsonian, concert appearances with the Paul Winter Consort, including Carnegie Hall in NYC where he howled with Audubon/Sierra Club/Greenpeace chapters, nature centers & parks, Slick's mesmerizing presence jolted a generation into understanding what they were losing by not protecting it.
The following handful of photos give a glimpse of the brilliant, tragically short, 3 year career of a shooting star wolf.
