Program Background

Beginnings
Since 1969, the WOLF TEACHER grassroots effort has worked for the wolf and environmental respect in a variety of volunteer-powered projects. Its colorful history of wolf advocacy was begun by fearless founder, John Harris, in San Francisco, California. Named for the first live wolf ambassadors who went public with natural showman, John, the Clem & Jethro Lecture Service tirelessly crisscrossed the country, teaching audiences in countless public forums. Wen joined in 1978 by Pamela Brown, John, wolves, and a cast of outstanding volunteers had already inspired a tidal wave of progress for wolves.
Changes
In 1985, with john's untimely passing at age 50, the program evolved to current director, Pam Brown. Pam relocated to New Mexico in 1985, focusing on education in the southern Rockies, and Mexican Wolf restoration. There, she merged forces with the newly developing wolf refuge, Mission:Wolf, Colorado, and directors Kent Weber and Tracy Brooks. Together they continued programs with live wolves coast-to-coast, supporting the momentum for wild wolf returns. In 1990 Pam produced the video "Wolf Teacher" (now available in DVD format) while doing programs nationally with Mission:Wolf and wolf, Shaman. During this time, she also served as secretary and on the board of Animal Protection of New Mexico. In December 1995 Santa Fe Reporter, Pam was recognized in "Salutes of the Year" as an individual that had made a particularly positive difference with her work on wolf education and advocacy.
Full Circle
When Pam returned to her native upstate New York in 1998, she continued programs with the DVD, as well as wolf tables at fairs and festivals. Currently Mission:Wolf does programs nationally, and maintains the 30+ year tradition of wolf seminars in the northeast throughout October. Pam coordinates that schedule. Contact Pam for bookings for her presentation with the DVD, tables at festivals, and the Northeast Mission:Wolf tour.
